Bristol Rovers suffered their second consecutive home defeat of the season after losing to Accrington Stanley.

Joe Pritchard’s 54th minute header inflicted a fifth defeat in seven League One matches for the Gas.

There was a nervous feel around the stadium with a smattering of boos at the full-time whistle, some directed at the players and other at the extravagant celebrations of Stanley goalkeeper Lukas Jensen.

Despite the loss, Rovers can take pride in another well attended match which was their second highest of the campaign for them. A total of 8,906 spectators entered through the turnstiles including 153 fans who made the long trip down from Lancashire.

The opening day crowd of 9,064 against Forest Green Rovers remains the highest but it was a significant improvement on last week’s lowest attendance of 8,078 last weekend.

As attendances go, Rovers’ match with Stanley was the fourth highest out of eight matches, after several matches were called off due to international call-ups.

Sheffield Wednesday boasted the higher crowd of the weekend with 22,123 fans witnessing a 3-1 win at Hillsborough, placing them in fourth in the league standings.

Plymouth Argyle, who played at Home Park on Sunday, claimed a 2-1 win over Ipswich Town, inflicting a defeat on the Tractor Boys for the first time this season, with 15,480 fans in Devon.

As for the lowest attendance of the weekend, there were 2,623 fans at the New Lawn to witness Exeter City beat Forest Green convincingly in front of the Sky television cameras, with 2,000 of those being home fans.
