How Aaron Collins measures up against other Bristol Rovers top scorers over the years

Aaron Collins is in good company alongside some prolific strikers over the years at the Memorial Stadium

Aaron Collins’ goals inspired Bristol Rovers to League One at the first time of asking after an incredible turnaround for both him and the club.

At one point of the season, there was a wonder on whether the Welshman would find the back of the net.

He went his first 18 league matches without a goal but has ended up as the top scorer for the season.

His improvement in form coincided with his team’s performance as they shot up from 17th at New Year’s Day to a third-placed finish, having occupied the spot for only the last ten minutes of the season.

Two goals against Scunthorpe United on the final day including a cheeky back-heel for his second helped put Rovers on their way to a 7-0 win which secured a dramatic final day promotion.

The 24-year-old was seen on Gloucester Road on Saturday along with Nick Anderton, climbing up to sit atop of a traffic light in an image that will live long in the memory of Gas fans.

He has become a fan favourite for how he celebrated with supporters and for what is now a career best season, there is much to look forward to for the former Forest Green Rovers striker.

Collins will have his first crack at League One after spending most of his career in the lower leagues after being released by Wolverhampton Wanderers after beginning his career at Newport County.

A goalscorer will be needed if Rovers are to compete next season, so is he the man to lead the line?

As Collins finishes top scorer of Rovers’ incredible promotion winning side, we compare his goals-per-game ratio to those who finished in the same position as him over the last ten seasons.
