How the 24 League One club ranks when it comes to away followings

The 2022/23 League One campaign has just gone past the half-way point of the season. The table is starting to take shape with clubs getting a feel for how the rest of the season may falter out.

The January transfer window is an opportunity for clubs to strengthen, which will either help them solidify their promotion ambitions, or preserve their position in the division. As for Bristol Rovers, their goal was first to secure 52 points and ensure survival but talk has begun about a potential play-off push.

Fans of all 24 clubs have been given the opportunity to go to different stadiums, all of which are unique and different character. Derby County and Sheffield Wednesday have massive stadiums which are usually filled, and the supporters of the Rams and Owls, tend to travel to other third-tier clubs in massive numbers.

There are other former Premier League clubs, who are trying to find their way back in the English pyramid system. Charlton Athletic and Portsmouth once dined at the top table, as did Ipswich Town and Bolton Wanderers, with both playing in Europe previously. It's Plymouth Argyle who lead the table at the minute on the pitch, but how does it compare when it comes to average away attendances?

There are a lot of factors to consider when it comes to away followings, some clubs are fortunate to be based in a good position with a reasonable distance to other teams, whilst others have a long slog ahead of them, and rack up plenty of travel miles.

Here we take a look at how the League One table would look if based on average away attendances.
