Elkan Baggott's first words after completing Bristol Rovers loan transfer from Ipswich Town

Bristol Rovers' new signing Elkan Baggott has spoke to the press for the first time since his loan deal from Ipswich Town.

The 21-year-old, who has 24 caps for his country has just come back to England after representing Indonesia at the Asia Cup. His nation were knocked out of the competition after losing 4-0 to Australia in the round-of-16, where the defender played all 90 minutes.

After completing the move Baggott said: "I’ve had a few chats with the manager and the way the team plays here and the environment is something that I think really suits me and even my first day here so far you can see everything, the setup is really good so I think it gives myself the best chance of performing at the highest level I can." Baggott has had previous loan spells at Kings Lynn, Gillingham and Cheltenham Town, before joining the Pirates on deadline day. "I would have learned a lot with the previous loan clubs I have been at," said Baggott. "Especially Gillingham, I played a lot of games, the more games you play the more you learn, hopefully I can bring my qualities and show them on the pitch here."

The Indonesian star scored the only goal for Ipswich in their EFL Cup exit to Fulham back in November and was asked how he will fit into Taylor's style of play. "It suits my game better, at international level we play with a back three, at Ipswich as well last season, this season it's kind of like a hybrid but I’ve had a good experience of playing a back three there, I’ve probably played more games in the back three that I haven't."

The youngster believes that his intentional pedigree will stand him in good stead to help fight for the Gas this season. "I've just come back from the Asian cup and that experience was unbelievable, you see different parts of the world play against people from different parts of the world. you can adapt your game differently as well and take different things you might not necessarily get from here."

Baggott who stated he's "good in the air," as well as, "calm on the ball," said, "my ambitions are to have a good rest of the season here and get some games and learn a lot and then hopefully try and go back next season and make a big impact on the Ipswich squad."

The Ipswich player knows James Wilson, Luke Thomas and Grant Ward from their days at the club as Baggott looks to quickly adjust to life at Rovers ahead of their League One trip to Exeter City on the weekend.
