Data experts predicts shift in League Two play off race after latest results

The finishing line is in sight for Bristol Rovers but they must keep their eyes on the prize

Bristol Rovers 2021/22 League Two campaign is drawing to a close, but the side still have work to do to guarantee that they will be involved in the League Two playoffs.

A win over Salford City at a sold-out Memorial Stadium on Good Friday boosted their chances as they managed to create some breathing space between themselves and the chasing pack. It also enhanced their automatic promotion hopes as from their draw with Tranmere to yesterday’s result, there has been a 17% increase.

Salford had been just two points behind the Gas before a ball was kicked yesterday but are now five points behind them and there were positive results elsewhere.

Newport County suffered a shock home defeat to Crawley Town, which creates a gap of four points between where Rovers are now and the possibility of dropping out of the top seven.

Sutton United had been in and around the promotion picture but after a number of games postponed, owing to COVID-19 as well as their EFL Trophy run, they are back in the mix. They secured a 3-2 win over Mansfield Town yesterday who also have a game in hand and should both sides win those, then the end of season play-offs is a bit more easier to map out.

And whilst Rovers will be hopeful of playing in League One next season, they at least know that if they don’t get promoted that one team they won’t be playing against is Scunthorpe United. Their 72-year stay in the Football League was brought to an end after their 3-0 defeat to Leyton Orient.

Below is how the statisticians believe the remainder of the 2021/22 League Two season will play out, which includes who will be relegated, promoted and who the four teams will be in the play-offs.
