Cardiff City priced out of transfer for ex-Everton star that trained with Bristol Rovers

Cardiff City have been prized out of a move for Tom Davies, who trained with Bristol Rovers this summer.

The 25-year-old is a free agent after turning down an offer of a new contract at Everton, as he searches for first-team football after 13-years of service to the Toffees. Davies though won't be joining the Bluebirds after BBC Sport Wales reported that a deal looks 'unlikely' as they cannot afford his wages.

Davies was training with the Gas this summer during their pre-season training camp in Portugal, in a bid to help keep him fit ahead of his next move. It was reported by the BristolPost that there was no talks about him making a move to the Memorial Stadium, and that he was merely training in a 'competitive environment' as he bids to keep fit for his next club.

Cardiff's inability to afford Davies should rule out Rovers of the running to sign him, given they are a Championship side and recently signed three-time FA Cup winnner Aaron Ramsey.

A potential destination for the midfielder was Eredivise outfit PSV who are based in the Netherlands with Sport Witness suggesting that ex-Toffees director of football Marcel Brands could convince him into a potential reunion. Scottish Premiership giants Rangers had an interest in January too but with the EFL season already begun and the Premier League due to start shortly, time is running out for Davies.

Davies may not be a realistic target but Rovers have money to spend this summer following the recent arrival of new Kuwaiti investor Hussain AlSaeed. Rovers bought Connor Taylor for £300,00 last week, and still have money still to spend in this window after a failed attempt to sign Alfie May, who later joined Charlton Athletic. Eight new faces have arrived this summer including loan pair Matthew Cox and Tristan Crama from Brentford, as well as League One winner James Wilson, and Jevani Brown who made a positive impact at Exeter City last season.
