Bristol Rovers saw defeat at home to Wycombe Wanderers as they lost 2-1 at the Memorial Stadium in League One on Saturday.

Former Bristol City defender Joe Low opened the scoring for the visitors as his near post header was unchallenged, following a free kick by former Rovers player Luke Leahy.

The visitors then doubled their lead, as former Premier League midfielder Garath McCleary scored on the break after the Gas were dispossessed in the middle of the park.

Substitute Harvey Vale pulled one back for the hosts as the Chelsea loanee calmly finished his chance into the bottom left-hand corner.

Player ratings:

Matthew Cox - 6

Confident with his feet, which gave Rovers a good foundation to play high possession-based football. Couldn’t have done much to prevent the goal. Made important stops when required.

Jack Hunt - 6

Didn’t look out of place on his debut. Was busy up and down that right flank from full back. Put some dangerous balls into the boc.

James Wilson - 5

Between he and Crama, should have been more switched on to the free header scored by Low.

Tristan Crama - 6

Coped with the physicality and presence of Sam Vokes well, almost got the equaliser late on.

George Friend - 6

Slotted in nicely at left back on his debut. Always looked to make the forward pass.

Luke Thomas - 6

Looked to get in behind and made plenty of positive driving runs forward down the right wing.

Grant Ward - 6

At the heart of the Rovers midfield, he and Finley looked to dictate possession.

Sam Finley - 5

Made some clever intricate passes to keep possesion. However, made various long diagonal switch passes in the first half that didn’t meet their intended targets, resulting in possession cheaply lost.

Scott Sinclair - 6

Rovers’ brightest spark in the first half down the left handside, looked to get in behind whenever possible.

Aaron Collins - 6

Was always busy in that pocket inbetween Wycombe’s midfield and back five.

Jevani Brown - 6

Had Rovers’ only real chance in the first half as his shot hit the outside of the post.

Josh Grant (subbed on, 64) - 6

Lamare Bogarde (subbed on, 65) - 5

Lost possession soon after coming on which led to Wycombe’s second goal.

John Marquis (subbed on, 65) - 6

Stretched the Wycombe defence when he came on and caused problems for the away side.

Antony Evans (subbed on, 77) - 6

Looked to get Rovers forward with the ball when he came on.

Harvey Vale - (subbed on, 78) - 7

Got the Gas back into the game with a calm finish soon after coming on.
