Bristol Rovers pre-season plans includes hosting a Man United legend at the Memorial Stadium.

Bristol Rovers can take a closer look at one of their reported transfer targets this summer after a friendly with Plymouth Argyle was announced.

The Gas will host Championship opposition at the Memorial Stadium as they host Plymouth Argyle in a pre-season friendly. Rovers will play the Pilgrims on Tuesday, July 30 at 7.00 pm with the game just over a week until their season opener on Saturday, August 10.

It will provide Matt Taylor with an opportunity to take a closer look at Joe Edwards who has been linked with a move to the Mem. The Bristol Post reported in late May that the West Country club are considering a move for Edwards. They made an attempt to sign him in the January transfer window after falling out of favour but he remained down in Devon and scored the winner against Hull City to ensure his side would be playing in the Championship next season.

Edwards began his career at Bristol City, and is under contract at Plymouth until the summer of 2025. Rovers prized away James Wilson from Plymouth last summer and are aiming to sign a player from them for a consecutive summer.

Plymouth will be providing Rovers with a strong test as the two prepare for the 2024/25 campaign. Wayne Rooney was appointed as their head coach last month. He had a far from successful spell at Birmingham City but beat off competition from other candidates to land the Home Park role.

It is the fourth fixture that has been confirmed for the summer. It all begins again on Friday, July 5 in the annual friendly against Melksham Town before facing non-league opposition in Bath City and Yeovil Town on Saturday, July 13 and Tuesday, July 16.

Tickets are priced at £10 for Adults, £5 for Seniors and Under-21s, and just £1 for Under-14s for those wishing to go on the terrace for the Plymouth Argyle fixture.
