Bristol Rovers supporters have so far been able to catch two of their games on TV this season, as a result of Sky Sports' commitment to the EFL.
Supporters with a Sky Sports subscription, or opted for a Now TV pass, were able to watch Bryant Bilongo net a stoppage time winner against Northampton Town to begin their league campaign with a victory. Three days later, they could also watch the Carabao Cup tie with Cardiff City which finished 2-0 to the hosts.
The goalless draw against Rotherham United wasn’t streamable as that was a 3.00 pm kick-off, and the Article 48 rule is still in effect. Gas fans though could still listen to commentary from BBC Radio Bristol, and tomorrow they can watch their EFL Trophy match with Tottenham Hotspur U21’s.
This weekend, Rovers face Stockport County at Edgeley Park, and that's a 12.30 pm kick-off. The reason why the Gas are kicking off early is because the game has been chosen for coverage by Sky Sports + along with Burton Albion and Stevenage. Each weekend, there will be one or two matches chosen for coverage, and the slots are usually a Saturday lunch time kick-off, but in some cases there are some games on Thursday nights.
As part of the five-year deal which is worth £953m, Sky Sports have promised to be fairer in their choices when choosing games for broadcast. Birmingham City’s relegation from the Championship and Wrexham, backed by Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds would make them two of the obvious picks, but they won’t be on TV or streaming platforms every week.
The Championship is still the main division on Sky Sports, but at least there are more games at the weekend that supporters can watch if they’re unable to attend games, though it does mean that Rovers fans will have to leave much earlier then they would do. Anyway, with selections now locked in until January as part of Sky Sports’ commitment to making things easier for supporters when planning to attend matches, here’s a table in which League One teams will appear the most on your TV screens till January.
