Bristol Rovers have reportedly renewed their interest in January transfer target Luke Robinson, a left-back from newly promoted Wigan Athletic.

Rovers already have Nick Anderton and Trevor Clarke as left-back options but the rumours of Robinson could push Anderton into the centre.

The Latics have made the left-back available for a loan move and it is believed that the Gas are one of the clubs in for him.

Back in January, Rovers along with Leyton Orient had reportedly had a bid turned down for him on Deadline Day as Wigan wanted bodies for their end of season run in.

An article published by Football Insider claims that Rovers along with League Two newcomers Stockport County are the two clubs leading the way for Robinson at the moment with both clubs making contact over a possible move.

The report does add however that a number of clubs in both England and Scotland have considered making a move for the Scotland Under-19’s international.

His contract with the Lancashire club had been due to expire but it was extended for a further season after being included on the retained list.

Robinson has mainly been used as a back-up by the League One champions and made 10 appearances in the 2021/22 campaign, though six of them came in the EFL Trophy.

His last inclusion in a match day squad for Wigan was a 1-0 win over Arsenal’s Under-23’s in an EFL Trophy win back in late January, but other than that he hasn’t featured.

In a professional career that began back in 2020, Robinson has made 29 appearances with 25 of those coming in his breakthrough season in 2020/21.

Wigan won the league last year but Robinson played just 56 minutes in Leam Richardson’s title-winning side, opting for experience after being forced to throw youth players in last season.

As well as being linked with a move for Robinson, reports last week claimed that James Norwood has a decision to make on whether he is joining Rovers or Oxford United.

Meanwhile another January target Callum Camps will become a free agent tomorrow after his contract with Fleetwood Town expired
