Bristol Rovers, Port Vale, Northampton, Mansfield: Huge change in predicted League Two finishes

Six points from the busiest period of the season has given Bristol Rovers the boost they need for their promotion goal

Bristol Rovers players did what was asked of them and that was to get maximum points in one of the trickiest times of the season, given the two games in quick succession.

The Gas recorded wins over Salford City on Good Friday and Port Vale on Easter Monday, enhancing their prospects of promotion from League Two.

Elliot Anderson’s winner against Salford, separated them ever so slightly from the chasing pack whilst he was also on target, as well as James Connolly and Ryan Loft in the victory over Port Vale.

Rovers’ win over Port Vale has opened the door wide open again for an automatic promotion spot with just two points separating third-placed Vale and fourth and fifth placed Rovers and Northampton Town.

Sutton United meanwhile have emerged as a strong contender and are just three points behind Rovers and Northampton as they look to secure a play-off spot in what is their first season in the Football League.

Whilst Rovers will have to wait for a slip up from Vale or even potentially Exeter City, it is still up to Joey Barton’s side to play their part in the remaining fixtures of the season.

They host Forest Green Rovers at the Memorial Stadium on Saturday afternoon, who can potentially be promoted to the third tier for the first time in their history with a positive result and results going in their favour.
