Bristol Rovers player-coach Glenn Whelan is the most valuable player in the first-team squad according to one website.

The 91-capped Republic of Ireland international joined at the end of July as a coach but has since found himself playing having initially left last summer.

Whelan linked up with Joey Barton after leaving Fleetwood Town and was captain of the side last year when he played but found himself out of favour.

Despite his bit-part role in the team, he is still the most valuable player in the squad, which would be based on his long experience with Stoke City in the Championship and the Premier League.

Football website TransferMarkt which presents information about players, such as their market value and transfer history, have placed valuations on the Gas’ first-team squad.

Whelan is valued at £720,000 and is considerably higher than the nearest placed Aaron Collins, who is statistically the best player in the squad this season.

Collins - who has signed a long-term deal until the summer of 2025, is worth £525,000 and has seven goal contributions this season, the most in the team. His fellow attacker Harry Anderson also shares the same value, despite being out of contract next summer.

New signing Josh Coburn - yet to make his debut due to a knee injury - after joining from Midlesbrough is worth slightly under half a million at £438k and is valued the same as fellow loan signing Lewis Gibson, as well as John Maquis and Antony Evans.

Other summer signings such as James Connolly, who is currently injured with a fracture is worth just over a quarter of a million at £262k, whilst deadline day signing Sylvester Jasper is £219k, the same as Jordan Rossiter.

Luke McCormick, the most sought after signing of the summer, has not been given a valuation by the website and hasn’t been given a valuation before. Bobby Thomas, who marked his Rovers debut last week with a goal is worth £131k, the same as club captain Paul Coutts and fellow new recruit James Gibbons.

Towards the bottom end of the squad, Lewis Gordon, a free signing from Brentford is worth less than £100k with a valuation of £87k, the same as Anssi Jaakkola.
