Bristol Rovers are fighting for their lives in League One as they look to avoid relegation to League Two

Bristol Rovers are sat in 20th place in the League One table. They were beaten 2-1 at home by Mansfield Town over the weekend in what was a big dent to their survival hopes as they look to avoid relegation to League Two. Midfielder Romaine Sawyers got their goal against the Stags but they couldn’t get an equaliser in the end.

The Gas are six points above the drop zone with seven fixtures left to play this season. Burton Albion, Crawley Town, Cambridge United and Shrewsbury Town sit below them. Next up for the Pirates is a home clash against Birmingham City on Tuesday night.

Will Bristol Rovers stay in League One?

Bristol Rovers still have a cushion between them and Burton in 21st. However, their form hasn’t been great and they still have work to do. They are also in line for a very tricky test against Birmingham up next and are taking on a Blues’ side who are edging closer to winning the title so it will be a tough clash to get a result from.

Calderon, who spent a large chunk of his playing days at Brighton and Hove Albion, was picked as the Gas’ manager earlier this winter. He was selected as their replacement for Matt Taylor. It has since been a mixed spell in terms of results for the Spainard at the Memorial Ground.

Speaking after their loss to Mansfield, he said: “Not [feeling] good, obviously. I would say it is the cheapest one we have given away in terms of the game. I think it was a good week in the way we trained the whole week, and the way we prepared the whole week was good. All of a sudden, in the first minute that [the goal] happened and after that, I think we did the more difficult thing, which was to come back from that situation.”
