Full-back Luca Hoole played at centre-back which shows they are light in that area at the moment.

Nevertheless, the Pirates have set their sights on landing O’Brien on loan, according to journalist Alan Nixon on his Patreon.

The same reporter has suggested fellow League One club Barnsley have also been keen on the youngster in this window.

He has since been used in the Eagles’ development squad and is yet to make a senior appearances for the Premier League club.

Nevertheless, he gained experience out on loan in League Two last term with Swindon Town and helped the Robins get into the play-offs.

The Wiltshire club came calling for him back in January and he went on to make 21 appearances in all competitions for them, 19 of which came in the league.

O’Brien returned to Selhurst Park at the end of the past campaign and has been playing for Palace over the course of pre-season.

However, another loan exit could potentially be on the cards for him now with Bristol Rovers believed to be in the frame. Barnsley have been linked too and it will be interesting to see where he ends up.
