League One returns on Saturday afternoon with a full set of fixtures.
Bristol Rovers begin their 2022/23 campaign with a home match against fellow promoted side Forest Green Rovers at the Memorial Stadium.
The Gas have been subjected to a slightly reduced capacity as a result of pitch invasions against FGR and Scunthorpe United but will still be backed by a packed out stadium with a record number of season tickets sold.
Rovers have been joined by Derby County, who look to have finally put behind their off-the-field issues. Yo-yo clubs Barnsley and Peterborough United were also relegated for the Championship making for a tough division.
Exeter City, FGR and Darrell Clarke’s Port Vale came up alongside Rovers so it is fairly competitive if you add them into the mix with former Premier League teams like Charlton, Ipswich Town, Portsmouth and Sheffield Wednesday.
There is a considerable difference between the final resources of some of the teams that have dined at English football’s top table compared to the relative newcomers to the division.
Players in League One can sometimes be players not quite good enough for the Championship or players who have excelled in the lower levels of the pyramid system.
Recruitment teams have worked hard to strengthen their team in the hope of reaching the Championship and some big money has been spent, including Ipswich’s most recent buy of Leif Davies from Leeds United. Portsmouth also fought off competition from Blackpool for Colby Bishop.
Some times the best buys are bargain ones, but all players have to have some kind of value, which is why we’ve looked at the whole division.
Here is every teams’ most highest rated player on Transfermarkt with some questionable outcomes.
