Bristol Rovers will be aiming for an immediate promotion back from League Two

Bristol Rovers are gearing up for life in League Two following their relegation from League One. They have slipped out of the third tier after finishing in the bottom four. The Gas have gone down along with Shrewsbury Town, Cambridge United and Crawley Town.

Darrell Clarke has been brought back to the Memorial Ground as their replacement for Inigo Calderon. He has managed the Pirates in the past and is back for a second spell. The 47-year-old has also had spells in the past with the likes of Port Vale, Walsall, Cheltenham Town and Barnsley.

Bristol Rovers considered Richard King transfer move

Bristol Rovers have considered a move for Jamaican star Richard King this summer, according to EFL Analysis. The 23-year-old, who plays for Cavalier, is a man in-demand at the moment with Plymouth Argyle, Peterborough United, Leyton Orient and Barnet also said to be keen. However, he is set to join St Mirren in the Scottish Premiership instead for a new challenge with the Buddies under the guidance of Stephen Robinson.

King, who has made 26 caps for the Jamaica national team, has been on the books of his current club for his whole career to date. He rose up through their youth ranks before breaking into their first-team in 2021. The Clarendon-born man has made 88 competitive appearances for the Jamaica Premier League club and has scored six goals from the back, as well as having a loan spell away in Iceland at IBV a couple of years ago to boost his development.

What now for Bristol Rovers?

Bristol Rovers could have seen King as someone to boost their defensive department. They will need to look elsewhere for reinforcements in his position now though with St Mirren seemingly in the race for his signature. The Gas have plenty of time to find players before the start of the 2025/26 campaign.

Following his re-appointment as their head coach, Clarke said: “It is difficult to put into words just how special it feels to come back to Bristol Rovers. I am beyond proud to return and once again be here at this exceptional Club.

“Even though the season just gone was undoubtedly a difficult one, the potential of this Club remains incredibly high and, when the chance to return came up, I didn’t have any hesitation. I am excited to get down to work during the off-season, prepare for the new campaign and step out at The Mem once again in front of the brilliant, passionate Gasheads. We will need each and every one of them with us in the season to come and I want to give them a team they can get behind and performances they can be proud of.”

Meanwhile, Director of Football Ricky Martin added: “I am delighted to welcome Darrell back to Bristol Rovers. Following the review of our footballing operation we began our recruitment proceedings, and it quickly became clear to me that Darrell was the right person to take our first team forward. He has been our number one target throughout this process.”
