Bristol Rovers v Cheltenham Town player ratings: two 7/10s, but one 4 and one 5 scored in League One draw


Bristol Rovers were held to a 1-1 draw at home to Cheltenham Town in Matt Taylor's first League One game as Gas manager.
It was the Robins who took the lead just before the half hour mark as George Lloyd beat James Gibbons to the ball on the touchline and ran at the heart of the Gas defence, squaring the ball to Will Goodwin who couldn't miss from six yards out.

Hide AdGibbons looked to make amends soon after as he fired a curling effort towards the bottom right-hand corner, but for the heroics of goal keeper Luke Southwood, who diverted his effort for a corner.
Jack Hunt equalised for the Gas five minutes into the second-half as he lofted his effort over Southwood, following great play on the left wing by Harvey Vale.
A game with not a lot of clear chances ended in a draw and here is how the Rovers players faired...

Matt Cox - 6
The youngster's distribution in the first-half especially was questionable, however the strong wind certainly wasn't helping. Couldn't have done anything about the visitors' opener.

James Wilson - 6
A tough physical battle up against Will Goodwin, but the defender held his own in the heart of the defence.
Connor Taylor - 6
Had a tricky first-half like the rest of his team mates, however showed more composure after the break.
James Gibbons (subbed off, 45') - 4
The full-back lost his footing at the wrong time, which allowed the visitors to break and subsequently take the lead. The defender struggled and was replaced at half-time.

Hide AdHeld is own in the middle of the park despite the visitor's numerical advantage in that area.
Sam Finley (subbed off 55') - 5
Struggled in the first-half against the Cheltenham press and gave the ball away cheaply on a few occasions.
Luke Thomas - 6
Looked more lively in the second-half and was a threat for Taylor's side on the right wing.
Harvey Vale - 6
The only player in the first-half that put the visitors under a pressure and looked to get forward on the left-hand side for the Gas.
Jevani Brown (subbed off, 80) - 6

Hide AdThe forward struggled to have a big impact on proceedings in the number 10 position, however he did have some half chances in the second period.
Chris Martin - 6
The striker had a glorious chance to level proceedings early in the second-half, however the veteran blazed his effort way over the bar. Was physical as ever and won plenty of arial duals.
Joshua Grant (subbed on, 45') - 6
His physical presence had a big impact when the defender was introduced at half-time.
Antony Evans (subbed on, 45') - 7
Got on the ball and tried to make things happen in midfield for the Gas. His introduction made a big impact.
