Bristol Rovers player ratings: 'brilliant' 8/10 received whilst 5s given in Burton Albion defeat

Bristol Rovers were defeated once again at the Memorial Stadium after losing 2-1 to Burton Albion in League One.

Bristol Rovers saw defeat at home to Burton Albion in League One on Saturday afternoon.

Albion took the lead just before the interval as Ciaran Gilligan side-footed the ball, which looped over the helpless Jed Ward. into the back of the net.

The Brewers got their second when Mark Helm 10 minutes into the second-half had time and space, stabbing the ball past the young Rovers goalkeeper.

The Gas soon pulled one back through Antony Evans, whose brilliant first time shot caught Max Crocombe off guard in the Burton net on the hour mark.

It was the visitors who started the match the brighter of the two sides when Joe Powell found himself with space and time on the edge of the Rovers box, and fired his shot just wide of Ward's far post.

Rovers looked to grow into the match when a scramble in the Burton penalty area saw Antony Evans swing his left foot at the ball, however his effort was cleared from danger, to keep the score at 0-0 with 10 minutes to go until the interval.

The Brewers took the lead just before half-time when Mason Bennett's cross from the right-hand side saw Ward deflect the ball out to Mark Helm, whose shot was also blocked, but Gilligan was hand to loop the rebound into the far corner.

Martin Paterson's men doubled their lead after the break when Ademola Ola-Adebomi played in Helm who slipped it under Ward to make it 2-0.

Evans gave the Gas a lifeline when Jevani Brown squared the ball to him on the edge of the area, by calmly whipping a first time shot past Crocombe.

Rovers looked to find their equaliser, however fell short and Burton went back to Derbyshire with all three points. Saturday's defeat leaves Matt Taylor's side with back-to-back home losses in League One, moving the Pirates down to 12th position.
