Bristol Rovers CEO Tom Gorringe has commented on transfer links with Peterborough United striker Jonson Clarke-Harris.

Earlier this week, Posh chairman Darragh MacAnthony suggested that three League One clubs had been chasing the 29-year-old. He revealed that the third club had come out of ‘nowhere’ and since then Gas social media has gone into overdrive.

Rovers have recently been taken over by Kuwaiti businessman Hussain AlSaeed and are keen to back Joey Barton in the transfer market. The 40-year-old is keen to finish his transfer business before the deadline and a striker could be on his wish list.

Clarke-Harris is someone who fits the bill given how proven he is at this level. The Jamaica international got 27 goals last season and was the joint-top scorer in the league but has been transfer listed by Peterborough who are keen to cut costs.

“Jonno is somebody we know really well,” said Gorringe to Lewis Railton.

“He was obviously with us during my time here.

“I spoke to him on-and-off since he’s left. He’s a brilliant player and a really good lad.”

Gorringe however refused to be drawn in to the specifics of Rovers’ transfer strategy. It was however confirmed on Friday that Aston Villa loanee Lamare Bogarde would be returning to the Memorial Stadium in a welcomed boost to Barton’s plans.

The 19-year-old will spend the entirety of the 2023/24 season in the blue and white quarters, having made 18 appearances during a six-month loan spell last year.

Last week Andy Mangan predicted that business would be ‘exciting’ and over the course of the week they’ve signed Harvey Vale, Lamare Bogarde and League One play-off winner Jack Hunt.

Gorringe added: “We’re not in a position to confirm who we’re going after in terms of any players at this stage.

“Jonno scores goals, and I’m sure wherever he’ll end up, he’ll have a positive season.”
