Barnsley are contemplating a deadline day move for wantaway Burnley midfielder Adam Phillips.

The 24-year-old is free to leave Turf Moor and is available for transfer having not been a part of Vincent Kompany’s plans since taking over.

Phillips had been a rumoured target for Bristol Rovers earlier in the transfer window, but a move to the Memorial Stadium seems unlikely.

An article published on the Patreon account of Sun journalist Alan Nixon, who specialises in the Football League, said the Tykes are the latest club to be in for him.

Barnsley are ‘particularly’ keen on the player but there is interest from Shrewsbury Town, who had interest in him in the earlier part of the transfer window.

The former Liverpool academy midfielder has yet to play a game for the Clarets, despite being contracted to them for the past four seasons. Phillips has spent the past three seasons on loan twice to Morecambe and also a short spell at Accrington Stanley.

Phillips in that time has netted 21 goals and registered 18 assists, playing various roles. He has played as a winger at times but only on 13 occasions, whilst central midfield is his more predominant position after defensive midfield.

As of Rovers’ interest, Phillips was considered more when there was a roadblock in their pursuit of Luke McCormick.

He had been made available to the Gas but McCormick was their priority signing and after months of reported interest, they were able to agree a fee with AFC Wimbledon.

Rovers are in the market today for more attacking players in the mould of wingers to bolster the front line. Last season’s top scorer Aaron Collins has been deployed as a left-sided winger to accommodate the summer arrival of John Marquis, but are still short in that area.

Fulham’s Sylvester Jasper has been a name that has been spoken about on social media with the player unlikely to feature for the Whites this season.

Peter Rutzler, the Fulham reporter for The Athletic, says that Jasper is ‘set to join Rovers on loan’ and is close to joining Rovers in a bid for game time.

Bulgarian Under-21 international Jasper was on loan at Colchester United for the first part of last season before joining Scottish Premiership outfit Hibernian.

Jasper has played for Fulham’s Under-21’s team to keep up his game time and scored in the opening day win over West Ham United, though he has not played in their last two matches.

He had been on the pre-season tour in Portugal with the first-team however and played against Europa Conference League outfit OGC Nice.

As last season goes, he played 18 times for Colchester with two goals and two assists in League Two, but failed to register a goal contribution in his 13 matches in the Scottish Premiership.
