2023/24 League One odds: Where Bristol Rovers, Derby, Portsmouth and rivals are expected to finish - gallery

A look at where Bristol Rovers re expected to finish in League One next season, according to the bookmakers.

It's been only a few days since the 2023/24 League One campaign came to an end, following Sheffield Wednesday's play-off win over Barnsley.

The 24-team make-up of the third tier has been confirmed, and Bristol Rovers have a fair bit of travelling to do, following the promotion of Carlisle United on Sunday afternoon. The Gas had some short trips to the likes of Forest Green and MK Dons, but it's all change and there are more long trips next season.

Already, predictions are being made about who will do well, and who won't next the season. The transfer window hasn't even opened yet, with that set to open in mid-June, but already squads are beginning to take shape. Rovers have published their retained list, and they've managed to tie down Josh Grant to a new contract, and are now just awaiting the decision of Grant Ward, who was a brilliant free transfer signing in January.

Next season could be wide open, and with no disrespect to the other teams, there is really only Derby County, Portsmouth, and Bolton Wanderers to be worrying about when it comes to teams with big budgets and stature. Clubs who have all been in the Premier League previously, but as the third tier has taught them, that doesn't always mean success.

Some clubs have changed their managers, with Blackpool welcoming back Neil Critchley, whilst relegated Wigan Athletic have suffered an eight-point deduction before a ball has even been kicked. It makes for a tougher task of returning back to the Championship for Shaun Maloney, with several players departing the DW Stadium this summer.
