Bristol Rovers have been hit-and-miss in the transfer market over the last 20 years, where they've floated between League One and the National League.
The Gas have mainly been in the third tier, as well as a few seasons in League Two, whilst also spending a season in the National League. It's hard to always get your recruitment right, as you're usually contending with the same teams for players, and not all signings are going to work out.
In recent years, Rovers have turned to the loan market under Joey Barton and that is where they've had their success. They gave Elliot Anderson a platform and now the Scotland Under-21 international could potentially find himself playing in the Champions League this year. Connor Taylor had a great time at the Mem last year and fans wanted him back, but unfortunately Stoke City kept hold of him, despite a lack of first-team opportunities.
Not all of Barton's signings have worked out, but neither have his predecessors. It's a gamble exchanging a transfer fee, and so most signings are free transfer or loans, unless you're one of the bigger teams. Plenty of players have come and gone at the Memorial Stadium, some who are still highly regarded to this day whilst others you'd have forgotten ever turned out for the Gas.
Here, BristolWorld pick out 20 players that played for Rangers that you perhaps forgot even pulled on the blue and white quartered jersey... Are we wrong and can you remember or them or did we catch you by surprise?
