Bristol City Women welcome title rivals Liverpool to Ashton Gate Stadium for an historic fixture.

City, who are playing this game at the 27,000 seater stadium rather than at the High Performance Centre, are set to welcome more than 5,000 fans, which will be a record attendance for the Vixens.

Should the Reds, who are managed by former City boss Matt Beard, avoid defeat then they will be crowned champions of the FA Women’s Championship.

City’s defeat to Sheffield United, followed up by a win over Durham for the Reds, has the Reds on the verge of a return to the top flight after a two-year absence.

A total of 11 points separate the two teams though City do have a game in hand but with just four games remaining, time is running out and there will need to be a perfect end to the season for City.

When does the match start?

The game will kick off at Ashton Gate Stadium on Sunday with the kick-off time of 15.00 GMT.

A big blow for City is that they will be unable to call upon their captain Aimee Palmer, who is out for the remainder of the season.

She injured her knee after coming off worse in a tackle in the defeat to Sheffield United, which saw her replaced early on.

Abi Harrison, City’s all-time record goal scorer, is available for selection and will hope to get back on the score sheet after being shut out last week.

In her pre-match chat, Harrison said: "We will respect them but every team has areas to exploit and we will try to do that.”

Liverpool have a goalkeeper in Rachael Laws that has kept 13 clean sheets in the 19 matches played this season and she kept another in the win over Durham last week.

Summer signing Leanne Kiernan is in their ranks and has scored 12 goals since her move from West Ham United. Rachel Furness and Katie Stengel are also players that have chipped in with goals this season.

First-team captain Niamh Fahey was out with a bug last week but returned against Durham.

Beard, who previously managed City last season in the absence of Tanya Oxtoby, will know a few players from his time there. Abi Harrison was at the club last season and he will try to use the likes of Taylor Hinds to keep her out.

Before losing to Sheffield United, City had won their last five fixtures, but now they must pick themselves back up.

There was nothing to separate the two teams the last time they met with the score 0-0 at Tranmere Rovers’ Prenton Park. Liverpool have three wins, two draws and one loss in their last six matches.

Referee

Lisa Benn has been appointed as the referee and she will be assisted by Oliver Spender and Jack Clench with Robert Massey-Ellis the fourth official.

Benn has overseen seven Women’s Super League matches this season, showing 12 yellow cards.
