Nigel Pearson’s side have four points from their opening four matches.

Cardiff, on the other hand, have seven on the board and have lost only once this term after an impressive start.

Steve Morison’s side have had a busy summer transfer window, bringing in 15 new faces and the recruits all seem to have gelled together well.

‘Huge match’...

Speaking ahead of their trip to Ashton Gate, Morison has spoken ahead of the clash against Bristol City to their official club website:

“It’s a huge match. We lost all four derbies last year - that shouldn’t happen. We know what it means and we started that preparation knowing there will be one hell of an atmosphere on Sunday.

“We’ve sold out their away end and they’ve sold over 20,000, so it will be a really good occasion.”

The Welsh club have been dealt a huge blow with summer signing Jamilu Collins ruled out for the rest of this season.

He joined earlier in this window from German club Paderborn and has been an instant hit at the Cardiff City Stadium.

However, Morison has confirmed some bad news for his side:

“We won’t see Jamilu against until next season. It’s gutting for the lad, but we’re all here for him, and are going to make his next year the best it can possibly be.

“The plan would be to get him back for pre-season next year, and one thing we do know is that when we get him back, we’ve got one hell of a left-back.”

Return of O’Dowda

Callum O’Dowda’s contract at Bristol City expired at the end of the last campaign and he was subsequently snapped up by Cardiff on a free transfer.

The Republic of Ireland international has chipped in with a single goal and two assists so far for his new club and his boss has been impressed:

“You can see why Callum had so many teams after him throughout the summer. If you get him right, and in the right areas, he’s excellent.

“He did a job for us at left-back against West Brom, but he doesn’t have to worry about getting pushed back there, because you can see the damage that he can do at the top end of the pitch when given the opportunity.

“I’m sure he’ll be looking forward to going back, it’s just about him dealing with the occasion.”
