Ranked: Championship’s 20 best young players - including Bristol City, Nottingham Forest and Fulham stars

The Championship has proven itself to be a perfect platform for young players to strut their stuff

The Championship is nearing its conclusion and this weekend the English Football League will name its Young Player of the Year at the EFL Awards.

Nottingham Forest duo Brennan Johnson and Djed Spence have been nominated as well as Fabio Carvalho of Fulham, for their glittering performances for their respective club sides this season.

All the players are either 21-years-old or younger, which shows that English football’s second tier is the place to be for development.

Their performances this season not only could earn them a personal accolade but also a place in the Team of the Season, which is due to be announced on April 24.

Johnson has reportedly attracted the interest of numerous Premier League clubs, whilst Carvalho has been linked with a move to Merseyside giants Liverpool.

At Bristol City, the Robins have had to turn to some of their academy youngsters, as well as players they have recruited along the way, such as Alex Scott and Han-Noah Massengo.

Scott has enjoyed his first full season of Championship football, having made the move from Guernsey back in December 2019.

Massengo meanwhile is in his third season of senior level football having been bought from Monaco, having already been highly rated in France.

Massengo and Scott are just a number of players who have shone in a division which is usually reserved for the more experienced players that are just short of quality to succeed in the Premier League.

Below are the 20 players either 21-years-old or younger ranked by their performance rating in the Championship this season, as rated by WhoScored.
