Ranked: Championship’s 15 best young players - including Bristol City, Burnley, Sunderland and Boro stars

The Championship has some of the best young talent in England - but who’s the best 15 players in the second tier?

Bristol City are a club that has given young talent a chance since the appointment of Nigel Pearson, who is nearing a two-year reign. The Robins have had to turn to their academy after an overhaul of the playing squad, with several key first-teamers leaving, who have been replaced by some homegrown talent.

Sam Bell is the man in-form at the moment, and against Preston North End, he scored his first Championship goal, in addition to his efforts against Swansea City and West Brom in the FA Cup. Bell is the son of City hero Mickey Bell, and the 20-year-old is earning the plaudits for his performance as of late.

Alex Scott is the talk of the second tier, with the 19-year-old delivering a sublime display against Preston, with opposition fans waxing lyrical about his performance. He is subject of interest from a dozen Premier League clubs, and Tottenham Hotspur recently sent scouts to Ashton Gate, as they look to see how he develops, and whether it is worth making a move for the midfielder that is valued at a reported £25m.

But how do City compare to the rest of the 23 teams in the Championship when it comes to having the best young talent? Several clubs have dipped their toes into the loan market and paid Premier League teams a loan fee to take them on, and give them an opportunity they might not get in the top-flight.

With just over a quarter of the season left, with 16 games remaining for most teams in the league, we take a look at which young players are performing the best this season. WhoScored, used by the EFL to determine weekly, monthly and seasonal awards, have a metrics system which makes an overall player rating.
