Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson has provided an update on the injury status of Antoine Semenyo and Jay Dasilva, who came off injured against Sheffield United.

The Robins were forced into making two second-half substitutions with Dasilva exiting the field just before Chris Martin’s goal, whilst Semenyo was forced off as they sought a second.

Dasilva made way for midfielder Ayman Benarous, who slotted in at wing-back, making his first senior appearance in over two months.

Semenyo, who assisted Martin for his goal meanwhile was treated off of the pitch and was keen to rejoin the action but City took a precautionary measure of substituting him for Wells.

Asked about the status of both players, Nigel Pearson said to Robins TV in his post-match interview: Hopefully fine,”

“Jay just twisted his ankle, it was a bit of consultation as to which change we made.

“I thought Ayman did really well when he went on. I think more for Antoine he wanted to go back on but it was more important to protect him. We’ve got a very good replacement in Nahki and for me, it was a no-brainer.”

One of the leading performers in what was a respectable performance against one of the better sides in the division from City was their goalscorer Martin.

The 33-year-old was well found by Semenyo early in the second half and he scored with an instinctive finish past Wes Foderingham.

His strike means that he now has ten goals for the season for City, which is the first time in five years that he has got into double figures.

As well as his goal, he also contributed to City’s all-around play and got his teammates into attacking positions with some neat passes.

“He’s given us a good and solid performance,” said Pearson when asked on his assessment of Martin’s performance.

“He gives us a different type of outlet and he’s a better player than he’s given himself credit for, technically too.

“To get to 10 goals himself is certainly very pleasing for him but he’s always a part of positive things in our play both attacking wise and defensively and I’m pleased for him.”

Sheffield United arrived at Ashton Gate in search of a victory that would enhance their play-off prospects.

Paul Heckingbottom’s side had already had a hold of the final play-off spot but a win would have widened the gap between them and the chasing pack.

The Yorkshire side did start the game brightly and held most of the ball in the first period, testing Daniel Bentley on a few occasions.

“I think we did everything we could to try and win the game,” said Pearson in his assessment of the match, “I thought the second-half was quite an exciting game.

“Both sides tried to push to win three points but it just didn’t quite happen for us. I think the way our players approached the game was again a positive thing for us.”

“It was more than anything we were quite wasteful with the ball. You have to give some credit to Sheffield United, they are a decent side and they are pushing to get in to the playoffs. We were unable to make the most of our own possession.

“In the second-half, we were certainly more creative and we had some good chances and some good situations. We expected it to be a tough game today.

“We’re disappointed we couldn’t get back-to-back wins today. The performance was positive and four points over the two games is a decent reward. We’ve played well in both games and more importantly for me, the commitment’s been absolutely first class.”
