Bristol City missed out on bringing Joe Bryan back to his boyhood club.

As is the case with every club, during every transfer window, there will be a number of missed opportunities to go alongside the successful moves. Here are some of the latest updates in the Championship, including Bristol City.

Pearson comments as Joe Bryan heads for Millwall

The Robins will miss out on welcoming Joe Bryan back to Ashton Gate this summer after the left-back opted instead to join Championship rivals Millwall. Pearson had been eager to bring the 29-year-old back but he had reservations over the idea.

The boss has since had his say on the matter and has assured Bryan the opportunity is always there for him to return.

“I spoke with him a number of times. He was actually brave enough to talk about having some reservations about it,” Pearson told BBC Radio Bristol. “We here are trying to create a side that is driven by a real thirst and hunger, it’s important that we don’t make mistakes in terms of bringing players in.

“Joe would have been a fabulous signing for us in many ways, but only if it felt right and for him to verbalise that to me I was very pleased. I said to him the door’s never closed but it would have been an expensive signing for us and we can’t afford to have players in the building who question whether it’s the right move for them.”

Ipswich Town have offer rejected for Premier League ace

Ipswich Town are looking to make a big splash when they join the Championship next season as they set their sights on some big summer transfers. However, they’ve been knocked back in their pursuit of Everton’s Ellis Simms, who would have been quite the statement signing.

According to Football Insider, the Toffees have rejected a £4 million bid from Ipswich for the striker, who is receiving interest from a number of Championship clubs after his loan spell with Sunderland. Stoke City and Middlesbrough are also keen on Simms, while the Black Cats are interested in bringing him back as well.

If Everton agree to a deal, whoever lands Simms will be an interesting opponent for Bristol City next season.
