Bristol City will reportedly battle it out with two of their Championship rivals to sign Manchester City winger Marlos Moreno.

Moreno has been with the Premier League champions in 2016 but is still awaiting his first appearance for the Citizens.

During his time at Manchester, he has been shipped out on loan seven times, all aboard but now he could get a chance in English football.

Reports from AS Colombia says that City along with relegated Norwich City and recently promoted Sunderland are the three clubs interested.

All three have reportedly made enquiries to Man City as they prepare a proposal of a formal offer. He is entering the last year of his contract with City and it remains to be seen whether it would be a loan or a permanent deal.

The Robins do not currently play a formation that uses wingers and instead uses wing-backs, though he can play on both sides. They did sign Mark Sykes from Oxford United who played various positions last season and have tried to convert him into a position that can fit into the system.

Moreno has eight senior caps for Colombia and is also a Copa Libertadores winner - South America’s equivalent of the Champions League.

He has spent time out on loan with Deportivo La Coruna, Girona, Flamengo, Santos Laguna, Portimonense, Lommel and was with Vincent Tan owned Kortrijk last season.

It was at Lommel back in the 2020/21 season he enjoyed his career best form scoring six goals and four assists in 25 appearances, helping his side to a third placed finish.

Moreno also has 21 appearances in Serie A after loans with Deportivo and Man City’s affiliation club Girona, but has mainly played most of his football in Belgium.

He is not the only player from South America to be linked with a move to Ashton Gate recently. It has emerged from Colombian outlet BolaVIP that former Man City forward Felipe Caicedo is a target.

Caicedo is contracted to Italian second tier club Genoa but looks set to leave his contract early as they cannot afford his £1.6m a year wages after their relegation. The 33-year-old played just 300 minutes of league action last year and netted just once.

For a player that is turning 34-years-old in December, it seems unlikely that for a player on high wages during a time where City are trying to trim the wage bill that they would move for such a player.

They also have a number of attacking options such as Chris Martin, Antoine Semenyo and Andreas Weimann, who delivered 40 of the 62 goals scored in the league last year.

Nahki Wells, who was a back-up striker last season also knows where the net is in the Championship, whilst Sam Bell and Tommy Conway are coming through the ranks.
