Leicester City and top French club make push for Bristol City’s Han-Noah Massengo

Speculation continues to increase over the future of Bristol City’s French star

Two new clubs including Premier League side Leicester City have become the latest clubs to be interested in Bristol City’s Han-Noah Massengo.

The 20-year-old has a year left on his contract but has had much speculation about him and his future with a host of teams interested, though no definitive offer has been fielded to City as of yet.

Massengo, who was offered a new contract in January, has yet to put pen-to-paper on a new deal with the Robins with talks at an impasse.

Now reports from France say that two teams including a top French side are keen to pursue the midfielder and have made a development on their interest.

French paper RMC Sport say that OGC Nice are ‘knocking on the door’ of the midfielder and that there is more than just speculation to it.

They say that several meetings have taken place between Nice’s management team and the players representatives about a possible deal.

INEOS Sports, who own Nice, are now working out how to structure such a deal to take him to the Allianz Riviera ahead of the summer transfer window opening in June.

Nice finished fifth in Ligue One this eason and as a prize have qualified for the play-off round of the UEFA Europa Conference League which would give them a financial boost should they receive the group stages.

They will have to compete however with an unnamed German team who have also shown their interest with three teams making a strong case for him.

There was interest reported from German Cup runners-up SC Freiburg back in January but no movement was made on that front.

Already, Olympique Lyonnais, as well as Southampton were linked with him, whilst Watford also wanted him last summer, but their relegation would be a sideways move were he to move to Vicarage Road.

The last update from the club was when Nigel Pearson, speaking to BristolLive in the aftermath of the 2-0 defeat to Huddersfield Town said: “He hasn’t left yet, he’ll only leave if it suits us

"We haven’t received any offers. There was speculation last year but we didn’t receive any last year and we haven’t so far this year.

"There is still a potential for him to be here. Sorry to pour water on that story. We’ll see what happens basically. Everybody is in the plans until they take themselves out of it."

Massengo made 37 appearances in the Championship this season, earning two assists but towards the end of the campaign was made to start from the bench whilst others were preferred ahead of him.

Pearson was keen to include players in his side that had a definitive place in his side for next season with talks coming to a halt about him extending his stay at Ashton Gate.

In total, he has made over 100 appearances since joining from an undisclosed fee from AS Monaco back in the summer of 2019 under then manager Lee Johnson.
