Bristol City return to Championship action this weekend as they face Fulham, who dumped them out of the FA Cup last weekend.

The two sides face each other in a rare occurrence where two sides have played each other back to back, though it’s a different competition and a different venue this Saturday.

Fulham are chasing an immediate return to the Premier League and are well positioned to do that as they sit second in the league currently, just a point off of league leaders Bournemouth with a game in hand.

They are thirteen places above City who are currently 15th with a whole 18 points separating the two teams.

They were in action on Tuesday and won in fine fashion, thrashing Reading 7-0 at the Madejski Stadium.

What’s the latest team news for City?

There was positive news on the Joe Williams front as a second hamstring injury of the season has kept him sidelined. Williams is a confirmed absentee for this match but could return to the matchday squad in the next fortnight.

Pearson remained coy on whether he would continue to choose Max O’Leary who has played the last three games or to reintroduce club captain Daniel Bentley.

With Nathan Baker not expected to return and no Ryley Towler on the bench last week, Rob Atkinson after a positive showing against Aleksandr Mitrovic could start along with Tomas Kalas and Cameron Pring in a back three.

Matty James is expected to return after he wasn’t included in the matchday squad last week as he was afforded a rest.

Andreas Weimann, who scored a hat-trick against Millwall, is on his best ever season for a goal return and will be reintroduced after coming on as a substitute last week.

There could be a selection dilemma on whether to persist with Antoine Semenyo as a number nine or to reintroduce Chris Martin to the fold.

Jay Dasilva could also be pushing for a place in the team after making his first senior appearance for the club since October.

What’s the latest team news for Fulham?

Last week’s match-winner Harry Wilson is a man on form, after his freak goal deflected past O’Leary, he earned a brace and two assists in the romp of Reading.

Last week’s side that took to the pitch at Ashton Gate was a rotational team so there will be different players lining up against City.

24-goal striker Aleksandar Mitrovic is expected to return whilst Marek Rodak should come in for Paulo Gazzaniga.

There are of course former Robins players Bobby De Cordova-Reid and Joe Bryan in their ranks should they need to call upon them.

Ahead of the match, first-team manager Marco Silva said: "They [Bristol City] made it difficult in the cup. We know to win the game we have to have a good performance and be ready with a good commitment."

Head-to-head

Whilst City may be stung from their FA Cup exit last week, there are reasons to be optimistic given their positive record at Craven Cottage.

In their last five trips there they have won all of them, with four coming in the league whilst another came in the Carabao Cup.

You have to go back to December 1997 in the old Division Two for the last City defeat there.

It’s been less than a week since the last meeting between the two sides so Fulham will be high on confidence given they know how to beat City.

In the reverse meeting back in September, it was a 1-1 draw with Mitrovic’s strike being cancelled out by Kasey Palmer.

The match is scheduled for a 15.00 kick-off which is during England’s blackout hours for broadcast.

Not to worry though as Gregor McGregor will be in West London for BristolWorld to bring you the match as it happens.

How can I watch highlights?

It’s back to tuning in to EFL on Quest this weekend, which can be found on Freeview, BT and Sky.

The show is due to start at 21.00 but when you can watch the game will depend on how entertaining it is.

If you can’t wait, you may be able to catch the goals on Sky Sports News after 17.00.
