Ian Holloway has claimed that Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson will be pleased with his side securing a point in a 1-1 against Middlesbrough on Saturday afternoon.

The Robins took an early lead through an Andreas Weimann strike - his first goal since August - and had emerging talent Tommy Conway to thank after he laid on an impressive assist for the Austrian. City were pegged back shortly after the interval, however, with Chuba Akpom levelling proceedings for the hosts.

But despite his side squandering a lead, Holloway is of the opinion that Pearson will be satisfied with a sharing of the spoils on Teesside.

Speaking on ITV’s EFL Highlight Show, he said: “I think he’ll be pleased with this [point]; he’s got young Conway... what a fantastic ball across for Weimann - he scored 22 last year, yet he’s on 15 without a goal and it’s unlike him after scoring four in four at the beginning of the season. He’ll be pleased with the fact they have shown that guts and determination to come through a game they weren’t doing well in and also get a point.

“In the Championship don’t get too carried away because you’ll get some bad little runs and you’ll pick some points up when you’re not expected to. City fans love Nigel Pearson and he’s doing a great job.”

City currently lie 16th in the Championship table, after a winless run of four matches, including yesterday’s draw against Boro. Their final league outing before the campaign breaks for the World Cup will come against Watford at Ashton Gate next Saturday.
