Four debuts and nine changes - Bristol City predicted XI v Oxford United - gallery

Here’s what we predict Bristol City’s starting lineup to look like for Wednesday’s Carabao Cup Round One clash against Oxford United

Bristol City turn their attention to the Carabao Cup as they welcome Oxford United to Ashton Gate.

The two teams met in pre-season in a behind-closed-doors friendly at the High Performance Centre, in which the Robins won 4-1 against a mix-and-match U's side. The League One outfit played Swansea City the night before, and so whilst there were several first-team players involved, it wasn't their strongest side. It'll be interesting how the two teams match up with a crowd, and with some transfer business done.

Both sides didn't pick up opening day victories with City drawing 1-1 with Preston, whilst Oxford who are the dark horses in the third tier, got off to a losing start as they suffered defeat to Cambridge United who only stayed up on the final day of last season. The league will be the priority for both teams but City are the favourites and as they've shown in pre-season, they've got enough squad depth to overcome teams in League One and Two.

Nigel Pearson in his post-match press conference on Saturday instructed that there would be some changes, but he didn't think his side will get any weaker even if he makes wholesale ones. You could pick two strong teams from the players they've got and both could compete well in the league. It's likely he'll be without Alex Scott and Andi Weimann for Wednesday though as Scott missed Preston completely whilst Weimann was subbed off after just 20 minutes.

Below is how we think Nigel Pearson might line up his Robins side. Do you think differently? Flick through the pages to see our thought process behind it all.
