Bristol City fans from yesteryear may have been delighted with West Ham’s late win over Fiorentina which secured the Europa Conference League.

Jarrod Bowen scored an 89th minute winner for the Hammers as he helped them win their first European trophy since 1965. Said Benrahma opened the scoring before Giacomo Bonaventura equalised.

Some fans of English clubs tend to support their compatriots in European competitions, whilst others go against that and support the opposition if they’re main rivals, and others are just unaffected and are on no particular side of the fence.

Robins fans however may have been delighted with West Ham’s trophy lift, because one of their former players had been involved. To the younger fans, they may not have realised, but Irons boss David Moyes used to play for City.

The 60-year-old was at City from 1985 to 1987, and made 83 appearances for the club, scoring three goals. He did have a bit of success at Ashton Gate, winning the EFL Trophy back in 1986 at Wembley Stadium in front of more than 54,000 fans.

In the present day, he is more remembered for his management, having managed Sunderland, Everton and Manchester United. West Ham’s win saw Moyes became the first Scottish manager since Alex Ferguson won the Champions League in 2008 to win a European trophy.

"These sorts of moments as a manager don’t come around too often. You have to work very hard,” said Moyes.

He told BT Sport: "I would have to say it’s my best day in management because the moments you get to celebrate, have your family here, and win in the last few minutes of the game - we did that against Alkmaar as well - they don’t happen often. Tonight was brilliant, it’s a great feeling.”
