Football Manager: The top ten Bristol City players ranked by management game

FM22 was released on Tuesday, 9 November for PC, Mac, Xbox, Mobile Devices, as well as FM Touch for Nintendo Switch.

It gives fans an authentic experience of achieving a football fans dream, in becoming manager of taking to the dugout and managing a football club.

To make it as realistic as possible, Football Manager uses a dedicated team of researchers to provide information on over 800,000 players.

The database is so extensive that real-life football clubs have used it as a tool when selling players.

Ratings are decided on Football Manager by being given a value of 200 for both Current Ability (how they are now) as well as Potential Ability (which is how good they could become).

The obvious option is to go with Current Ability, as that will give us an idea of who the best players in the squad are now.

Analysing the database, we take a look at who the game thinks are the top ten players in the Robins team.

Defender Jay DaSilva sits at the top of the list and it doesn’t come as a surprise given his former Chelsea connections.

The 23-year-old was captain of England at Under-19 level, so there’s that still attached to him, whilst he has become a first-team player at City.

Next to DaSilva is Matty James, who has been vital this season in his role as the midfield enforcer.

Before picking up an injury last week, James had played every minute of the Championship season.

A player we haven’t seen much of since his arrival at Ashton Gate in 2020 is Joe Williams, who rounds off the top three.

Despite his bad luck with injury, he is still highly rated, Williams played regularly for Bolton Wanderers, Wigan Athletic and Barnsley in the Championship and was previously on the books of Everton.

It comes as no surprise to see Wells involved in this list given his importance to the team. Wells reached double figures last season, scoring 10 goals in 46 appearances.

The Bermuda international had a knack for scoring for QPR and Huddersfield in the Championship, so Wells’ place is deserved.

First-choice goalkeeper and captain Daniel Bentley is there in the top-five and given how he’s been a safe pair of hands, this is expected.

The 28-year-old though will want to improve on his one clean sheet this season to avoid a rating decrease in the January update.

Top goal scorer for City this season, seven-goal Andreas Weimann is included in sixth.

Academy product Antoine Semenyo is there after making a breakthrough with the City first-team. Last year he scored five goals and got seven assists in a campaign where he played 44 times, the most he’s made in his career.

We’ve not seen the best of Andy King who has been limited to five appearances this season and won’t be back until December after surgery on his hamstring. King, who played for Wales at EURO 2016 and won the Premier League in 2015/16, probably is on this list for the longevity he had with the Foxes.

The Welshman’s midfield partner Tyreeq Bakinson is the last outfield player on the list. Bakinson like Semenyo had a breakthrough campaign, making over 30 appearances.

Perhaps the most surprising name amongst this list is Max O’Leary, who usually plays as back-up to Bentley.

The 25-year-old, who made three appearances last season is ranked above the likes of Han-Noah Massengo, who is without a doubt, the best young talent in the squad.
