Jojo Wollacott has gone from one former Bristol City manager to another after joining Hibernian from Charlton Athletic.

Wollacott, who was at Bristol City from 2015 to 2021, but failed to make a senior competitive appearance, has made the move to the Scottish Premiership, where he will link up with Lee Johnson. The 26-year-old was brought to Charlton last summer by former Bristol Rovers boss Ben Garner, but he was replaced by ex-Robins boss Dean Holden in December, and following his appointment Wollacott fell down the pecking order.

Since leaving Ashton Gate, Wollacott has gone on to represent Ghana at the Africa Cup of Nations, and cruelly missed out on being in their World Cup squad because of injury. His move to Easter Road should help his international prospects, whilst he will also get an opportunity to play European football. Hibernian are in the second qualifying round of the Europa Conference League, and will play either Faroese outfit Vikingur or Andorra side Inter Club d’Escaldes.

Commenting on his move to Edinburgh, Wollacott said: “Obviously he was the First Team Manager at Bristol City, which is where I was a few years ago, so him signing me is a statement in itself, because it shows his trust and belief in me.

“He played a massive part in my development at Bristol, so I want to repay that.”

At Charlton last year he played in 20 matches and kept five clean sheets, and the closest he ever got to representing City was being an unused substitute on 26 occasions under various different managers.

The 26-year-old - who joined Swindon Town following his departure from Bristol City, has gone on to make more than 100 appearances in senior level football, and whilst at Swindon, helped them reach the League Two play-offs.

"We’re delighted to bring Jojo to the Club and I’m looking forward to working with him again," said Johnson to Hibs’ official club website.

“He’s a player I’ve known for some time and it’s great to see that he’s starting to fulfil his potential. He now has over 100 games under his belt and has played on the international stage with Ghana.”

“He’s an athletic, brave, and confident goalkeeper, and with big competitions coming up it’s important we’re strong in the goalkeeping department.”
