EFL pundit delivers candid prediction ahead of Bristol City’s clash with Swansea City

Bristol City face falling into a similar habit of last season after their 2-0 defeat to Reading at the Madejski Stadium last Saturday.

The Robins failed to register a shot on target and had five attempts on goal but struggled to cause any real danger to the home goal. City have now failed to win back-to-back games since September.

Nigel Pearson’s side have three wins in their last ten matches but for every victory they claim they have suffered a defeat in their last half a dozen games. A 2-0 win against early promotion favourites West Brom looked to be the perfect response to Millwall but defeat in Berkshire has them back at square one.

Swansea - visitors to Ashton Gate on Saturday - are one of the Championship’s in-form teams in a division that is hard to build consistency. A 4-0 defeat to Burnley was the only blemish with six wins recorded in their last seven matches.

As a result of the difference, Swansea are fourth and City are 13th though only six points separate the two sides ahead of their lunch-time meeting in the West Country.

Championship expert and former ex-Nottingham Forest midfielder David Prutton can only see the match going one way however. The 41-year-old is the host for Sky Sports’ Championship coverage and runs a weekly column that predicts the outcome of the 12 matches.

He said: “Bristol City just cannot get any consistency going. They followed up a great win at West Brom with a disappointing defeat at Reading. It is why they find themselves where they are.”

“Swansea, meanwhile, are flying at the minute. They will be riding high after their derby-day win over Cardiff. I will back them to claim another victory here.”
