Coventry City make Bristol City star their ‘top target’ as transfer talks begin

The former Chelsea defender has been linked with a move across the Championship

Coventry City have reportedly opened talks with Bristol City about a move for defender Jay Dasilva ahead of Tuesday's transfer deadline.

The registration window shuts at 11.00 pm on Tuesday night, and in the last two days of the window, speculation has gone into overdrive about player arrivals at Ashton Gate, as well as departures. The Robins have already parted ways with Antoine Semenyo to the tune of almost £10.5m from Bournemouth, with them likely to reinvest that into the squad. Han-Noah Massengo's time at the club looks to be nearing its end, with a move to Auxerre on the cards, with the French club covering his wages.

A third departure in five days however could be on the cards, after City's Championship rivals registered an interest in one of their fringe players. A report from transfer specialist website Football Insider, says that the Sky Blues are speaking to City about potentially signing Dasilva in their search for a left-back, and have made him their top target.

Dasilva is out-of-contract at the end of the season, and it has not been made public yet which players were offered contract extensions at the end of last year. The 24-year-old started the campaign as first-choice left-back but has recently been displaced by Cameron Pring, though Dasilva did play in the FA Cup win last Saturday in Pring's absence. He has played 25 times this season, with 22 starts and three substitute appearances.

Coventry and Bristol City have already conducted business this season with Kasey Palmer joining the Midlands club for an undisclosed fee. Dasilva joined City at the same time as Palmer and Tomas Kalas, joining from Chelsea for an undisclosed fee in the summer of 2019.

From the same website, Football Insider claimed on Monday morning that the Robins had two bids turned down for Wimbledon's Luke Currie, with a third offer set to be submitted. They claim that Bristol City want to get a deal over the line before Tuesday’s deadline.

Currie has featured 32 appearances for the Dons so far this season, finding the back of the net one and assisting his teammates on two occasions. He is a player that has been on the radar of Leeds United before, and has performed well in his first season in the Football League.
