Bristol City were beaten 3-0 away at Birmingham City over the weekend. The Robins have now slipped down to 18th in the Championship table and are four points above the relegation zone.

They are back in action on Wednesday at home to Preston North End as they look to return to winning ways. In the meantime, here is a look at some of the latest news from around the second tier...

West Brom sack Steve Bruce

The big news coming out of the Football League today is that West Brom have cut ties with Steve Bruce. The Baggies have made a dismal start to the new season and find themselves in the relegation zone.

They have won just once all season and have a big decision to make on who to appoint next. All of Bruce’s coaching staff, including his son Alex, have left the Hawthorns as well.

Chris Brunt, James Morrison, Gary Walsh and Richard Beale make up a four-man team in charge of the players whilst the club hunts for a successor, as per Joe Chapman (see below):

Notts County hotshot alerting attention

Notts County striker Macauley Langstaff is reportedly attracting plenty of interest from clubs in the Championship. Football League World have reported that Blackpool, Reading and Millwall have all been watching him in action.

The forward has scored an impressive 15 goals in 13 games in all competitions so far this term. He made the move to Meadow Lane over the summer from Gateshead but his current club may well face a battle to keep hold of him.

Ex-Manchester United man in pole position for Middlesbrough job

According to a report by Football Insider, former Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick is in ‘pole position’ for the Middlesbrough job. Boro are in the hunt for a replacement for Chris Wilder after sacking him last week.

Carrick is now said to be in ‘advanced talks’ over a switch to the Riverside Stadium. The 41-year-old has never managed before and could now be in line for his first role in the dugout.

Former Reading man joins new club

Goalkeeper Orjan Nyland, who was released by Reading at the end of the last campaign, has been snapped up by German side RB Leipzig on a free transfer. The stopper has penned a one-year deal with the Bundesliga outfit.

The Norway international spent a couple of months with the Royals and made 10 appearances in all competitions. He has also had spells at Aston Villa, Bournemouth and Norwich City in the past.
