The Championship’s most valuable teenagers as Bristol City, Birmingham, Sheffield United and Watford feature
Bristol City come out on top when it comes to making the best young talent in the Championship
Bristol City’s Alex Scott is easily one of the best young players in the Championship and has recently shown why he’s getting rave reviews.
Brought in from Guernsey for a relatively small fee, the Robins may not now but sometime in the future have to be prepared for a bid from some Premier League clubs, though the 18-year-old wants to be there with the Robins.
Leeds United and Champions League outfit Tottenham Hotspur have had interest reported in him but so far it is just that with no firm bid made.
It is clear that at City, there is a platform for young players to strut their stuff with Scott playing regularly last season, getting six goal contributions in 38 appearances.
Scott was the standout name but there was also Ayman Benarous to think of who was born in Bristol and is tied down for the next three seasons. He’s covering from an anterior cruciate ligament injury but the club rate him highly and once he is recovered, he’ll soon be pushing for his place back in the team again.
But how do other teams fare in the division? Losing play-Off semi-finalists Sheffield United and recently relegated Watford have some players that could make the step up when the season begins.
Meanwhile the likes of Birmingham City and Reading, who have had to navigate their way through a few transfer embargos have already turned to youth as a way to fill their first-team.
Below are the most valuable teenagers in the Championship with two players from Bristol City amongst them. What do you think? Are they undervalued or is it about right?
