Bristol City Women to meet Lewes once more after being drawn in FA Women’s Cup third round

Bristol City Women will play one more home game before the new year after being drawn against Lewes in the Women’s FA Cup.

The draw for the third round proper was made earlier today and Lauren Smith’s side have been drawn against their FA Women’s Championship rivals.

The tie is due to take place on Sunday 12 December and is likely to bBristol Rovers Women’s team lost to Pucklechurch Sports Ladies in the first round of qualifying back in September.e played at the High Performance Centre.

Bristol City have already gotten the better of Lewes this season, defeating them 3-1 earlier this month in the Conti Cup, whilst they won 2-1 in September in the league. They also played a match in pre-season.

Should the Vixens win then they will pocket £1250 and will be part of the same draw which includes FA Women’s Super League teams, whilst if they lose, they will pick up £315 at least for their involvement in the competition.

Bristol City are the only team from the city involved in the draw after Bristol Rovers Women’s team lost to Pucklechurch Sports Ladies in the first round of qualifying back in September.

City’s players are currently on a break due to the international period in which some of their players are involved.

Abi Harrison received her first Scotland call-up since 2019 and made an immediate impact upon her return, scoring a 93rd minute equaliser against Ukraine.

Ffion Morgan meanwhile was called up to the Wales squad for their FIFA World Cup qualifiers against Greece and France. Morgan was an unused substitute in the 5-0 win over Greece but hopes to be involved in their fixture tomorrow.

On-loan goalkeeper Fran Bentley was called up to the England Under-23’s squad and is in line to play against Estonia at St George’s Park on Tuesday, November 30.

Defensive duo Brooke Aspin and Naomi Layzell meanwhile started on the bench for England Development as they won 4-3 having trailed 3-0, Aspin came on for the remaining 25 minutes.

Earlier today, England suffered a 1-0 defeat to the Netherlands in the final of the Algarve Tournament.

Aggie Beever-Jones meanwhile has been part of a training camp with the England Pathway squad.

Despite players returning from international duty this week, there is no game this weekend as the 2020/21 Women’s Cup final is being played, which means the game against Lewes is their next scheduled fixture.

They will then play away at Crystal Palace on December 15 in the Conti Cup before playing their final league fixture of the calendar year away at London City on December 19.
