Bristol City are zeroing in on their next summer signing with Kane Wilson set to join from Forest Green Rovers.

BristolWorld understands that a deal is set to be completed in the coming days, with the Robins having agreed a three-year contract with the player.

Wilson has enjoyed a standout year in League Two, as the Green won the division, pipping Wilson’s former club Exeter City to the title.

And in 45 league games, Wilson recorded 13 assists and three goals from right wing-back, a problem position for Bristol City all last season. At the end of the season Wilson was crowned the EFL player of League Two.

The West Country outfit have been determined to recruit on the right side of defence since Danny Simpson departed during the season, and it was revealed last March that Wilson was on the radar of the Robins.

Wilson, 22, is out of contract next month and has opted against renewing with the now League One side, although Bristol City will have to pay compensation to Forest Green Rovers as the player is under 23 and cannot move for free.

The former West Bromwich Albion youth player will offer competition down the right flank, and his capture is an exciting one given that several Championship sides were in the mix for the former England U17 player’s signature.

Once the formalities are completed and a medical undertaken, Wilson will follow the signings of Kal Naismith and Mark Sykes to continue an exciting transfer window for the Robins thus far.

Bristol City are expected to recruit a defensive midfielder this summer too, while Robbie Cundy is weighing up a contract offer to remain in BS3 too, with the club hopeful that a new deal will be finalised with the centre-back soon.

Nigel Pearson explained before the end of the summer that there was little money to spend this window although Kasey Palmer is expected to wrap up an outgoing move to Coventry City next week.

Taylor Moore, Zak Vyner and Tyreeq Bakinson may leave during this summer transfer window too.
