Bristol City are now preparing to take on Portsmouth in their next pre-season friendly clash.

The Robins are taking on lower league opposition to get in shape for the summer, and they have just one friendly remaining ahead of kicking off the season against Preston. Nigel Pearson will want better from his men this season after remaining well outside playoff contention last season despite some marginal improvement.

As preparations ramp up, we have rounded up all the latest news and transfer rumours surrounding City and their Championship rivals.

Robins prediction

Carlton Palmer has issued a prediction for City ahead of the new season.

Speaking to Football League World, Palmer said: “Bristol City finished 14th last season in the Championship. Nigel Pearson has been steadily moulding a very competitive squad.

“They have made some shrewd acquisitions so far in the transfer market, Ross McCrorie from Aberdeen, Rob Dickie from QPR and Haydon Roberts from Brighton to name a few. Bristol City’s season could hinge on the fate of their talented young midfielder Alex Scott. If they are able to retain Alex’s services for next season, they have one of the best young midfielders in the country.

“If they lose him, it will be a big loss, but he will go for big money and it is about how that money is reinvested in the team. I think Bristol City could be mid-table and in that group chasing for a play-off spot.”

Stoke take advantage of Leeds

Stoke City have taken advantage of a Leeds United decision to secure a new forward.

According to Football Insider, the Potters have agreed a deal with Ferencvaros to sign Ryan Mmaee for £3.4million. It’s claimed Leeds were considering signing the Morocco star until they decided to part ways with sporting director Victor Orta, prompting a change of direction in terms of transfers.

Mmaee now looks set to link up with Stoke for the coming season having scored an impressive 25 goals in 43 league games for his most recent club.
