Bristol City player ratings v Swansea City: 'Saviour' strikes late but duo score 5/10 in vital win for Robins

Bristol City ended their four-match winless run as they edged past Championship rivals Swansea City 1-0 at Ashton Gate on Sunday.

Rob Dickie's second-half header after Joe Williams' cross proved vital, as Jason Knight almost doubled the City lead late on.

The result sees the Robins move into 13th place with nine league matches remaining.

The match started in a subdued fashion, with the visitors able to control proceedings in the opening 10 minutes.

The Robins showed little signs of pressing and were content to allow the Swans to retain possession but struggled to establish themselves in the game.

However, a sloppy error from Joe Allen allowed Harry Cornick to drive to the by-line and pull a cross back, but the Welsh midfielder recovered accordingly to intercept.

Manning’s side began to grow into the game and were finding space out wide, Mehmeti continued to be involved as he looked to set Cam Pring away on a couple of occasions.

Following a brief spell of Robins possession, the Swans regained their control of the ball but struggled to force a way past the home defence.

As the clock ticked towards half-time, the home support made their feelings clear as the hosts lacked the bravery and quality to hurt their opponents.

Moments before the half, Conway was released on goal by Knight, but the offside flag was up.

There was a slight delay to the start of the second period due to a sprinkler that refused to switch off, which was probably the most entertaining moment of the afternoon with 45 minutes gone.

Mark Sykes was on in place of Cornick early in the second period as Manning looked to make some inroads on the Swans goal, but it was the visitors who carved the best opening of the match on the hour mark.

Another one-two down the right flank saw Kyle Naughton cross to Przemyslaw Placheta, who took a touch but blazed wide from inside the area.

Manning’s side began to create openings with 20 minutes to play as Conway and McCrorie broke free inside the area, but the Swans survived.

Mehmeti began to influence the play from the left flank and his dangerous cross was diverted behind Tymon.

From the resulting corner, Williams clipped a cross into the area from the edge of the box.

Dickie was perfectly placed to guide the ball low into the corner of Carl Rushworth’s net to break the deadlock.

Minutes later, Knight fired a header narrowly wide of the post after Conway’s pullback as the hosts turned up the pressure.

Swansea, though, refused to accept defeat. Jamal Lowe peeled wide and fired a low cross into the area, Ollie Cooper met the cross but shot high over the crossbar.

The visitors continued their search for a late equaliser, but the Robins held on comfortably.
