Bristol City predicted XI v Southampton: Five changes likely as ex-Brighton man to return for Championship clash

The Robins will host Southampton on Tuesday night

Bristol City will look to record back-to-back victories when they take on Championship high-flyers Southampton on Tuesday.

The Robins recorded their first league win of 2024 last time out as goals from Jason Knight and Matty James saw them edge past Middlesbrough.

Liam Manning will be hoping that result will turn City's fortunes around, after a slow start to the new year in terms of points, with no wins in five before their win over Michael Carrick's side.

City though, have enjoyed an encouraging spell of performances against Premier League opposition in the FA Cup.

They took West Ham to a replay before knocking the Hammers out in the return tie at Ashton Gate, before being narrowly defeated by Nottingham Forest on penalties after a well-fought 210 minutes of football against the topflight side across two matches.

Manning will be boosted by the potential return of several key players to the side, including Scott Twine who netted in his only game for the club so far, and Mark Sykes.

Rob Atkinson is also making progress and featured for the u21s on Saturday, as is Kal Naismith, but the match will come too soon for the pair.

While City will want a positive result, they will face no easy task.

Russell Martin's side sit in second place in the league table and are on a remarkable unbeaten run of 25 matches in all competitions.

The Saints put five goals past Huddersfield Town on Saturday, and City will need to be wary of Adam Armstrong who has netted 15 goals this season.

The last time these two met, Southampton ran out narrow 1-0 winners, and City will want revenge on Tuesday.

Here's how I think the Robins will set up...
