Bristol City team news

The Robins are as they were from their 1-0 win against Coventry City at the weekend.

Nahki Wells has been deemed not fit to play tonight, but could return for the Severnside Derby according to manager Nigel Pearson.

“We’ll probably be a bit more optimistic about Nahki,” said Pearson in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

Kal Naismith and Jason Knight were doubts at the weekend but the latter featured. Naismith has a calf problem that he complained about on Wednesday, and that ruled him out of training last week. The issue has continued and he will not play a part on Wednesday night.

Midfielder Joe Williams was absent at the weekend too after a calf injury ruled him out. He had been ever present in the league up until the weekend, but his issue will rule him out for the next fortnight, and Andy King played in his absence on Saturday. Academy graduate Ayman Benarous remains out after suffering a setback after returning from two consecutive ACL injuries.

George Tanner has not recovered from an injury picked up before the international break and Mark Sykes filled in for him in his absence. Summer signing Ross McCrorie could have filled in for him had he been fit but he’s out until the New Year. He’s said to be making ‘positive progresss’ and the issue has been dealt with but he’s not expected to make his first-team bow until January or February.

Centre-backs Rob Atkinson and Zak Vyner are both out but are recovering well from their injuries. Atkinson and Vyner have both trained with their teammates, and the former could play for the under-21’s team in the coming weeks.

Ipswich Town team news

Wes Burns has been denied a return to Ashton Gate after being ruled out with a shoulder problem. He suffered the injury whilst playing for Wales in a friendly against Gibraltar and will now be sidelined for an unspecified period. The 28-year-old who came through the academy at City is to see a specialist and there is a hope he won't require surgery which would rule him out for months.

Axel Tuanzebe was ruled out for Ipswich's postponed clash with Rotherham United on Friday. He played 60 minutes in an in-house game but will instead be targeting a return in the next fortnight. Elkan Baggott is a long-term absentee, whilst Christian Walton played an in-house game having had a foot injury back in July.

Freddie Ladapo has an Achilles injury that required him to see a specialist and they're hoping that the injury isn't serious. He was ruled out of their last game, but would be assessed for tonight's game and Plymouth Argyle at the weekend.
