A whole host of games across the English pyramid have been called off as a result of COVID-19 cases but the match at Ashton Gate will take place as it stands.

This match is the final one before the Christmas Day and after the completion of the fixture will see City reach the half-way point of the season. As the table is so tight, a win could see them move up to mid-table and level on points with Huddersfield.

Huddersfield are currently 10th whilst City are 18th but only three points separate them in the table, highlighting the competitiveness of the division.

What’s the latest team news for Bristol City?

Wing-back Callum O’Dowda is the only major doubt for this match. He has a tight groin which he sustained against Hull City last week. Head coach Nigel Pearson in his pre-match conference said it may be best suited if he doesn’t play.

In his place could be Jay DaSilva, who as of late has been out in the cold. Cameron Pring is also available at full-back.

On the other flank, Alex Scott was withdrawn early in the draw with Hull but is fully fit and available.

Matty James made his first start since his return from injury last week and is expected to start again.

His former Leicester City teammate Andy King is back on the training ground but is not available for tomorrow’s match.

Unfortunately for Joe Williams however, a hamstring issue has him sidelined for a considerable amount of time.

What’s the latest team news for Huddersfield Town?

Ronaldo Aarons is the major piece of injury news from the opposition for this weekend. The winger has endured a difficult start to life in Yorkshire, making just five Championship starts after being plagued by injury. Aarons injured himself against Middlesbrough in a reserve match and there will be discussions on how long he will be out for.

Daniel Sinani, who had a bout of COVID-19 has returned to training so could be in contention.

Right-back Pipa has also returned to training following a long-term injury though tomorrow could come too soon.

First-team captain Jonathan Hogg has a knee injury and is expected to be out until early January, whilst Alex Alex Vallejo has a similar injury and will be out until the end of the month.

The key men to keep tabs on are Danny Ward and Sorba Thomas. Ward is their top scorer this season with five goals, whilst Wales international Thomas has eight assists this season.

These two teams are evenly matched when it comes to playing against one another. There have been 61 meetings between the two with the Terriers edging it by two wins, with 26 victories for the Yorkshire side, whilst City have won on 24 occasions, there has also been 11 draws.

City in recent years possess a good record against their opponents, winning seven out of their last ten competitive meetings, including a league double last year.

Famara Diedhiou's three-minute brace was enough to give City a 2-1 win at Ashton Gate back in January.

Is the match on TV?

No, the game is being played during the blackout hours, with the game kicking off at 15.00 GMT.

If the COVID-19 situation worsens and games go behind closed doors, we could see a return of games being available to watch from home.

Unable to attend but want to get the match day feel? We’ll be at Ashton Gate tomorrow where I’ll be on Twitter Spaces with editor Alex Ross, discussing the match.
