Bristol City urged to sign 'special' player amid fresh Birmingham City and Wrexham threat in the Championship

Bristol City have turned to Gerhard Struber as their manager this summer. He has been picked as their replacement for Liam Manning, who left for fellow Championship side Norwich City. The former Barnsley boss cut ties with FC Koln following the end of last season.
The Robins reached the play-offs in the last campaign. However, they were beaten at the semi-finals stage over two legs by Sheffield United. They will be hoping to get into the top six again next time around.

Ex-Bristol City player Leroy Rosenior has urged his former club to bring in ‘special’ talent at the top end of the pitch. The Robins have recently snapped up striker Emil Riis following his departure from Preston North End. However, Rosenior believes they need a bit more quality out wide in attack to deal with new competition from relegated trio Leicester City, Southampton and Ipswich Town in the division, as well as ambitious promoted pair Birmingham City and Wrexham.
Rosenior has said, as per BristolLive: "Anis (Mehmeti) was the top goalscorer but Liam (Manning) didn't really trust him to put him in the side towards the end of the season when we were heading into the crunch period. I think (Bristol City) maybe (need) someone at the top end of the pitch and in the wide areas that is a little bit different.”
He added: “They've done a lot of the hard work now. The squad is looking a lot healthier with the new signings and the extensions for Cam Pring and George Tanner as well. It's looking like there's more depth in the squad, now they maybe need to see if they can add a little bit more quality because this division, I think, is a lot tougher than it was last season.
"With the teams coming down from the Premier League and the likes of Wrexham and Birmingham City coming up, I think it's going to be a lot tougher this season. But, they've got a platform this group of players who finished sixth last year and they'll want to push on. For me, that special player - if he's available and if they can get him - at the top end of the pitch would be really nice."

Bristol City manager Struber will be looking to put his own stamp on his newly inherited squad this summer. Goalkeeper Joe Lumley has joined after his release by Southampton. He will battle it out with Max O’Leary for the number one shirt.
Midfielder Adam Randall has been thrown a second tier lifeline by the Robins after Plymouth Argyle’s relegation to League One. He has been on the books at Home Park for his whole career to date and has now left for a new challenge at Ashton Gate. The 24-year-old will compete with the likes of Max Bird and Jason Knight to get into the starting XI.
Riis has also been snapped up in an eye-catching transfer. He has been with Preston for the last five years but left at the end of June when his contract at Deepdale ran out. The 27-year-old made 186 appearances altogether for the Lilywhites and found the net on 46 occasions, 12 of which came last term.
