Bristol City discover new dates for 2022/23 season as young Robins league fixtures released

Bristol City’s fixtures for the 2022/23 U21 Development League has been released and they will begin their campaign on the road.

A change to the structure of the leagues has been made with Premier League clubs deciding to revert back to Under-21 after a few seasons of Under-23’s.

This means that squads will be younger although there will still be the opportunity to play three players over the age of 21.

Last season saw the likes of Nahki Wells, who was out-of-favour in the senior team, make a few appearances, as did George Tanner who was stepping up his recovery from injury.

The young Robins reached the regional final last year but suffered defeat at the hands of Coventry City.

The team lasfeaturing the likes of Dylan Kadji, who has trained with the first-team this pre-season, as well as Ryley Towler and captain Josh Owers, who is the son of City legend Gary.

Most games will be played against Southern teams such as Cardiff City, Reading, Charlton Athletic and Watford, but there are also some matches scheduled against northern opposition.

Alex Ball’s side will kick off their campaign against League One outfit Barnsley on Tuesday, August 9, which will be played away from home. Their first home match which is likely to be at the High Performance Centre is on Tuesday, August 16.

The first Severnside derby of the season will take place at home against Cardiff City, again at the HPC on Tuesday, September 13.
