Update breaks on Bristol City's key transfer target as Leeds United plot stunning move for ex-Arsenal star
Bristol City and their rivals have the chance to bring in some new faces
Bristol City won 2-1 at home to Blackburn Rovers last time out. Scott Twine and Nakhi Wells got their goals against John Eustace’s side.
Liam Manning’s men are on the brink of the play-offs. They are in a strong position to make a push for the top six over the coming weeks and months.
The Robins have the chance to bring in some new players before the deadline. It has been a quiet January transfer window so far for them.
Bristol City target Harry Darling wanted by Sheffield United
Sheffield United have joined the race for Bristol City-linked Harry Darling at Swansea City, according to The Star. The defender’s long-term future is up in the air this winter amid attention from elsewhere.
The Robins are admirers of the centre-back, as per Darren Witcoop on X. However, it remains to be seen at this stage whether they will lodge an official offer amid his new links to the Blades. Darling, 25, is out of contract at the end of the season. He is due to become a free agent in the summer as things stand.
Swansea risk losing him for free in June if they don’t cash in on him now, assuming he doesn’t pen an extension anytime soon. He has made 28 appearances in all competitions so far in this campaign and has chipped in with three goals and two assists from the back.
The Swans signed the Cambridge-born man back in 2022 and he has been a regular since then. After joining his current club, Darling said: “I was with [Russell Martin] at my last club and we've stayed in contact. I love working with him and it's such a big club. I've heard really good things about it so those were the two reasons I want to come here. I know the way the manager plays so it was just a case of getting the deal over the line - I just can't wait to get started."
He added: "Although I'm a ball playing centre-back, my first job is to keep clean sheets, defend well and do that for the team. If I can do that bit first, then goals are just added extras."
Leeds United linked with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain
Leeds United are targeting Besiktas midfielder Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, The Sun claim. The 31-year-old has emerged as a possible option for the Whites.
Oxlade-Chamberlain, who has made 35 caps for England in the past, has been playing his football in Turkey since 2023. However, his situation in Super Lig is uncertain right now.
He has had spells in the past at Southampton, Arsenal and Liverpool. He has played 422 matches in his career to date and has scored 53 goals. Leeds could see the Portsmouth-born man as someone to add more experience into their squad. He would give them more competition and depth in the middle of the park.
Daniel Farke’s side drew 0-0 away at Burnley last time out. Neither team were able to find a winner at Turf Moor.
